Am I required to confirm my appointments? Yes. As part of our effort to allocate as much time with the dentist as possible, we consider the time set aside for your appointment to be your reserved time. For appointments scheduled more than 48 hours in advance, a confirmation via text, email, online chat or phone is required prior to your appointment.
What is your appointment cancellation policy? We understand that last minute changes in your schedule or emergencies may arise that cause you to miss your appointment, however, missing 3 or more appointments within a year may result in a formal dismissal from our office. This ensures that patients who keep their appointments will be able to occupy time slots that are available.
Is there a fee for cancelled appointments? If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know immediately so that we are able to offer your appointment time to another patient. At the discretion of My Friend's Dentist, appointments cancelled less than 48 hours before their scheduled time will be considered a missed appointment and a $50 cancellation fee, not covered by insurance, will be charged.
What happens if I am running late for my appointment? We realize that traffic, weather or other unforeseeable circumstances can play a role in being late for an appointment. We accommodate appointments up to 10 minutes late without rescheduling.
Do I need to be present for my child's visit? If your child is under the of 16 it is required by law that a guardian accompany them to their visit.
How old does my child have to be to go the dentist by themself? If your child is 16, you can complete a Parental Consent Form which grants us permission to see them without a guardian present.
When your child turn 18, they are able to come to their visit on their own without written permission being granted.
What should I expect on my first visit? After completing your New Patient Forms we will perform X-Rays and an Exam and your dentist will discuss your oral health goals, their recommended treatment and then put together a Treatment Plan with you. Unless specified, your first visit will also be accompanied by a Teeth Cleaning. If you have any additional questions about your visit, feel free to contact us.
It's been a long time since I've been to the dentist, is there anything I need to do prior to my visit? There isn't. We're happy your taking the step the see a dentist and take care of your teeth and your smile. We look forward to seeing your for your first visit.
What is in-network dental insurance? In-network insurance specifies that a dentist, or provider, has contracted with an insurance company to offer services at their pre-negotiated rates. In-network dental insurance offers several advantages, these vary by plan and company but generally include coverage for preventative work and varying discounted rates for dental services. Some of the disadvantages can include clauses and exceptions included in the fine print like waiting periods, downgrades and same day treatment clauses. In addition, dental insurance does not function like regular health insurance and covers up an annual maximum and then does not cover additional services after that point. This amount is typically set at a $1,000 annual maximum.
How will I know how much my insurance covers? For any non-preventative treatment, we provide estimates of your costs based on information provided by your insurance company. We also recommend reading the details on your specific plan prior to your visit.
What are the practices financial, or payment policies? We are happy to bill your insurance as a courtesy. However, the patient receiving service (or the responsible party) is ultimately responsible for all fees incurred. We require you to pay the “patient portion” at the time of service. For patients scheduling over an hour of time with the dentist, we require 50% of the patient portion prior to their appointment, this may include a deductible, co pay, and/or a percentage of each procedure.
If your insurance has not made payment in full within 2 months of treatment, you are responsible for paying the balance, and your insurance company will then reimburse you. We accept cash, checks, VISA, and MasterCard. We also offer financing through Care Credit and Lending Club.
If a check is returned for non-sufficient funds, a returned check fee of $30 will be added to your account. Past due accounts are subject to finance charges. All accounts past 90 days are also subject to small claims court or an outside collections agency which may impact your credit score.
For patients receiving sedation during their visit, payment is required 48 hours prior to treatment.
How long will my appointment take? Appointment times vary based on the dental work being performed. For a standard dental cleaning, the average appointment time is an hour.
We will able to provide more detailed estimates based on your specific appointment. For an overview of what to expect during your visit, please see Services or feel free to Contact Us.
Are X-rays required? X-rays and other diagnostic technologies such as Panoramic or 3-D Images are critical to assessing, diagnosing and treating your oral health, therefore they are a requirement for being seen as a patient.
If you have had X-Rays taken from a different office within the last year, or a Panoramic image taken in the past 3 years, we may be able to reference those images and avoid taking new X-Rays during your visit.
How much radiation will I be exposed to when taking X-Rays? We use digital X-Ray technology, which requires ~70% less radiation than traditional X-Ray films. If your health condition requires special attention to your exposure to radiation, your dentist may recommend foregoing those images.
In technical terms, radiation dosage for dental x-rays are as follows:
• Panoramic X-Ray: 20 microsieverts • Full mouth Series X-Rays: 20 microsieverts • Intra-oral Dental X-Ray: 1 microsieverts
For comparison's sake, the daily amount of radiation we are exposed to just from being alive is 17 microsieverts.
