Dental Fillings for Cavities

Correct Cavities Before They Hurt
Cavities occur when decay has progressed beyond the point where your tooth can heal itself or defend against bacteria. When this happens, the decay forms a small hole, or cavity, in your tooth.

Fillings prevent these cavities from worsening – helping you avoid pain or more costly procedures such as crowns, root canals or even tooth extractions.

Better. Sooner.
No one likes the news of a new found cavity. But the nature of decay and infection is that, unfortunately, dental problems only get worse over time. That’s why we always prefer to make them better now rather than wait until they worsen.

Appointment Questions

My last dentist said I didn't have any cavities...?

Our process for evaluating your oral health often identifies issues that other dentists aren't able to. In addition, we take the unusual approach of  being proactive when treating your oral health problems, addressing them as soon as possible before they worsen to avoid causing you more pain (and money).

How long will my appointment be?

Appointment times for fillings vary based on number of fillings needed, which surface of your tooth the fillings is located on and how large the fillings are. We're able to provide a more accurate estimate of how long your appointment will take once your individual treatment needs have been determined.

Will I be in pain after my appointment?

After fillings it is normal to have some sensitivity to hot and cold food or drinks for about one week. The sensitivity should not be intense or linger more than a few seconds. In rare cases, when the filling is very deep in the tooth the sensitivity could take up to one month to subside. We are always available to answer questions or schedule a follow up if you are experiencing unusual sensitivity from a filling.

How long do fillings last?

Fillings typically last 10-12 years; however, smaller fillings tend to last longer than larger fillings. Good oral health is an important factor to in how long your fillings will last - the most common cause of failure for tooth colored fillings is a secondary cavity underneath one that was previously filled.

What type of fillings do you use?

We only place tooth-colored composite fillings that bond to your tooth structure. These fillings allow us to conserve as much tooth structure as possible when filling cavities. We do not use metal fillings.
