Removing, or extracting, a tooth may become necessary based on infection, periodontal disease, irreparable damage or when other procedures, like dentures or implants, are being undertaken. We work to make the process as painless as possible, including the use of modern anaesthetic techniques.
The length of the procedure can vary depending on the difficulty and number of extractions being performed. In most cases any less than 3 teeth can be extracted in about an hour.
Will I experience pain during or after the procedure?
Prior to initiating the extraction we work to ensure that you have profound numbness. During the procedure you will be able to feel pressure but you should not feel anything painful. After the procedure you can expect some soreness for 3-5 days as you recover.
What limitations will I have after the procedure?
You should not engage in any strenuous activity for 24 hours after surgery. Additionally, you should make the following behavior modifications to ensure optimal healing:
• Avoid anything that might dislodge the blood clot and delay or prevent normal healing. • Do not smoke, vigorously rinse or spit, engage in strenuous activities, or drink through a straw for at least two days after an extraction • Stay away from hot liquids, foods that are crunchy or contain seeds or small grains, alcohol, and carbonated soft drinks for two to three days following treatment.
